Honduras: This is a new site for Chadasha and Gift of Life International. Our clinical team, led by Dr. Rodrigo Soto, was in San Pedro Sula from July 19th to the 26th. We performed nine surgeries, and all children did well. It was an interesting trip with many discoveries, and as you can imagine, not all of them were positive. They have fundamental issues in the system that need to be addressed to continue our visits. However, the local hospital is committed to working with us to resolve the problems identified so that a successful program of pediatric cardiac surgery can be established.
On the positive side is the spirit and desire of the local doctors and nurses to improve and help more children with congenital heart disease. In the next couple of months, we will know if the hospital is doing its part to move forward. If that is the case, we may be making two trips to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, in 2026. Keep you posted.
