From February 1st to 8th, a volunteer medical team from Gift of Life International (GOLI), led by Dr. Rodrigo Soto and supported by CHADASHA, visited CEDIMAT Hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
This marked the 16th training visit since GOLI began providing clinical assistance to CEDIMAT in October 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic when other organizations were unable to offer support to children in need. Throughout this journey, CHADASHA has played a crucial role in ensuring that children in the Dominican Republic receive the care they deserve.
After five years of dedicated collaboration, CEDIMAT has significantly improved and is now the leading institution in the country for treating children with congenital heart disease (CHD).
The February visit was particularly challenging due to the complexity of the cases requiring urgent attention. Despite these challenges, the visiting team successfully performed nine surgeries and 15 catheterizations, with no reported mortality. As of now, all the children have returned home to their families, enjoying their new lives with healthier hearts.
The next visit from GOLI, supported by CHADASHA, is scheduled for June 2025.
